It was one of those sunny mornings that had “anything can happen” written all over it. I had just cracked open my second diet soda when my phone buzzed. A text from Kevin (yes, the Kevin — head minion extraordinaire) popped up:
“Big show today in the town square! Don’t miss it. The Minions are performing their Mental Health Warrior Anthem! Be there or be square!”
How could I possibly say no to that? These little yellow mischief-makers never disappoint.
And this time, I was extra curious — because the Minions had just finished reading my book, I Triumphed over Bipolar, Alcoholism and Anxiety Disorder by Becoming a Mental Health Warrior.
They’d taken the blueprint from its pages and leapt into action, determined to become Warriors themselves and triumph over their own challenges.
Plus, with the Minions, you just know it’s going to be loud, hilarious, and surprisingly uplifting.
Before the Anthem… the Warrior Story
Before I share what happened at the town square, let me quickly introduce the Mental Health Warrior Program. It’s a bold new SELF-HELP approach that puts YOU in charge — born from my own 20-year battle with Bipolar Disorder, Alcoholism, Anxiety Disorders and PTSD.
Those struggles left me feeling powerless, overwhelmed, and hopeless — so hopeless that I even tried to end my life. But in that dark time, I discovered something life-changing: mental health is the key to overcoming any challenge.
Armed with that truth, I created the Mental Health Warrior Program so that anyone — yes, including you — can take charge of their emotions, triumph over challenges and build the life they really want!
And here’s the best part: the program is more than just strategies — it’s a movement. A movement I was about to see brought to life in the most unexpected way… by a chorus of Minions.
The Minions Take the Stage
I arrived at the town square just as the crowd was gathering. And there they were — the Minions — standing proudly on a makeshift stage, each sporting a bright bandana emblazoned with “Mental Health Warrior.”
Stuart clutched a guitar that looked slightly too big for him, Bob was already shaking his tambourine out of rhythm, and Kevin had a microphone in hand, looking like he was born to lead.
“Hello, town!” Kevin shouted into the mic, his voice echoing off the brick buildings. “Today, we bring you… the Mental Health Warrior Anthem!”
The crowd erupted into cheers — half from curiosity, half because nobody can resist the Minions’ wild energy. A few people even started clapping along before the music began, as if they knew with Minions, anything could happen.
The Mental Health Warrior Anthem: The Minions’ Version
Stuart strummed a few dramatic chords on his guitar. Bob shook his tambourine enthusiastically, nearly hitting his own face. Then Kevin, in his high-pitched, endearing voice, began to sing:
🎶 Verse 1
Emotion is the storm, life is the mess,
But guess what, my friend? You’re not powerless!
You’ve got the strength, it’s hiding inside,
Grab your inner warrior, and enjoy the ride! 🎶
(The crowd was already clapping along, and I couldn’t help but smile.)
🎶 Chorus
You’re the anchor in the storm, steady and strong,
Chaos can’t define you, you’ve been a warrior all along!
Turmoil turns to triumph when you take control,
Mental Health Warrior, you’ve got a mighty role! 🎶
(The Minions jumped up and down, shaking their instruments with so much enthusiasm that the tambourine went flying (don’t worry, no one was hurt)).
🎶 Verse 2
Self-aware and centered, you’ve got the tools,
The chaos is the classroom, you make the rules!
Rise above the whirlwind, take it in stride,
Mental health is power, it’s your warrior guide! 🎶
(Kevin paused, pointing to the crowd dramatically as if encouraging us to sing along. A few people mumbled the words, but most of us were laughing too hard to join in properly.)
🎶 Verse 3
Lift each other higher, don’t fight alone,
Every warrior needs a tribe to call their own!
Share your strength freely, let the message spread,
Hope is the anthem, let it be said! 🎶
(At this point, the crowd actually joined in with clapping and stomping, the rhythm half-right but the energy unstoppable.)
🎶 Final Chorus
You’re the anchor in the storm, steady and strong,
Chaos can’t define you, you’ve been a warrior all along!
Turmoil turns to triumph when you take control,
Mental Health Warrior, you’ve got a mighty role! 🎶
(With that, the Minions finished with an overly dramatic flourish. Bob tossed confetti into the air, Stuart played a questionable guitar solo, and Kevin bowed deeply.)
The Minions’ Warrior Wisdom
Before the applause died down, Kevin grabbed the mic again. “Thank you, thank you! Now let me explain how we use this song in our adventures.”
The crowd leaned in, curious to hear what wisdom the Minions could possibly impart:
Kevin: “When we’re in the middle of chaos — like when Gru sends us on missions — we remind ourselves we’re the anchor. We don’t let the storm toss us around. We breathe, focus and stay steady — like Warriors.”
Stuart: “And when the lasers are flying and the gadgets explode, we know life is messy, but we can still stay cool as warriors. Music helps too!”
Bob: “Also, snacks! Warrior Snacks make everything better!”
The crowd chuckled, and I nodded along. Humor aside, the Minions had nailed some of the core principles of the Mental Health Warrior Program: stay grounded, embrace imperfection and use warrior tools (or snacks!) to triumph over tough times!
Wrap Up
As the Minions wrapped up, the entire town square burst into applause. People were smiling, laughing, and even wiping away tears. Somehow, these little yellow beings had managed to turn mental health into something approachable, uplifting and fun.
The Minions gathered their instruments (and the stray tambourine), waving to the crowd as they headed off-stage. Kevin gave me a thumbs-up.
“Bruce,” he said, “you’ve got a good thing going here. We’ll spread the word wherever we go!”
I handed them a stack of extra copies of my book, I Triumphed Over Bipolar, Alcoholism and Anxiety Disorder by Becoming a Mental Health Warrior.“ Take these for your friends,” I said. “Every new Warrior makes the tribe stronger.”
“Banana!” they all shouted in unison, which I took as a yes.
So if you’re struggling today, take heart in the Minions’ anthem and in the truth behind it: you can be a Mental Health Warrior. You can face your challenges head-on, tap into your inner strength and triumph.
The anthem is fun — but the Warrior life it points to is real and it’s waiting for you! 🎶✨
